VIS for Character Design and Video Games





Students will explore the process of development for animated and live action films by taking an idea from concept to completion. There will be a focus on composition, figure drawing, character design, perspective, storytelling, color and value, and thumbnail sketches. Students will produce a final cinematic painting.


Course Syllabus

As a result of successfully completing this course, students...

Will be able to:

  • Interpret stories and scripts to create characters and paintings depicting the setting and mood of a story.
  • Use different media techniques and demonstrate and awareness of space where characters can interact in the scene.
  • Draw more from imagination and less from reference.
  • Create artwork that can be used in their portfolio.

Will display the following attitudes/professional behaviors:

  • Meet deadlines.
  • Come prepared at all times.
  • Discuss work using specific and appropriate terminology.
  • Contribute to class discussion and critique.
